Scott May
Senior Vice President for Education Programs

May oversees an initiative that promotes interest in biotechnology education, state by state, at the school system level. He works with local leaders to encourage the infusion of biotechnology into standards and curriculum as well as teacher professional development and assessment.

May was previously senior advisor for the Mathematics and Science Initiative (MSI) of the US Department of Education, where he managed the initiative and advised senior officials such as Rod Paige, Secretary of Education, and Susan Sclafani, Assistant Secretary for the Office of Vocational and Adult Education. MSI worked to expand the research base on how children learn, increase public awareness of the importance of math and science education, and enhance the professional development of teachers.

Prior to that, he was Executive Director of Project 2061 Professional Development Programs of the American Association for the Advancement of Science and director of strategic initiatives and partnerships at the National Science Teachers Association. May holds an MBA from Texas A&M University, a BA in Economics from Austin College and is fluent in Spanish. He serves on the Presidential Advisory Board of Ana G. Mendez University System, and the Board of Directors of the Triangle Coalition and the International Foundation for Entrepreneurship Science and Technology. He is chairman of the board of Legacy Direct.
