New Mexico Biotechnology & Biomedical Association (NMBio)

The New Mexico BioGENEius Challenge is a competition for high school students doing original research in biotechnology.

Would you like to submit your research for the 2020 BioGENEius Challenge?

To participate in the New Mexico BioGENEius Challenge you must:

  1. Be conducting biotechnology research, which is defined as “the use of the knowledge of biological systems to produce goods and services.”
  2. You must participate in the statewide 2020 New Mexico Science and Engineering Fair (see for virtual regional fairs and rules/forms).  Winners of the local challenge will be judged and selected during the special awards judging at this event.  The winner will be notified at the Awards ceremony.
  3. Register on The Biotechnology Institute website <>  by completing the online application. Don’t forget to also complete the Authorization Forms required for your participation.  A PowerPoint slide of your poster must be submitted.  A BioGENEius Application Checklist will be available online and provide all instruction needed.

*** Winners of the Local Challenge must be available to compete in the International Challenges at the 2021 Digital BIO International Conference, June 10-11 & 14-18, 2021. ***

The top winning student of the New Mexico BioGENEius Challenge will move on to the International BioGENEius Challenge held in conjunction with the Biotechnology Innovation Organization’s (BIO) Annual International Conference.  Finalists will showcase their talent and research to a prestigious panel of expert biotech judges.
