Is there a BioGENEius in Your Classroom?

BioFlorida, the state’s trade association for the biotechnology industry, wants to know!

Enter your students in the BioGENEius Challenge, the most prestigious high school science competition in the world for original research in biotechnology.

Florida BioGENEius Challenge DEADLINE – Submit posters by April 13, 2012.

Florida winner(s) will receive an all-expense-paid trip to the national competition. 

How can your BioGENEius participate?

Student Eligibility

Must be a public or private school high school student; currently enrolled in biology or science-related courses (grades 9 to 12).

  1. APPLY NOW – Fill out a brief on-line registration form, after which you can select the “application” tab and submit your BioGENEius Application. Individual students only may submit one project for this competition.
  2. CREATE A POSTER – Follow these instructions to create your poster.  Click here for Rules and Guidelines.
  3. SUBMIT YOUR POSTER – Upload your poster (PDF Format) during the application process. Be sure to include your last name and school name in the file name. (e.g., Smith - ABC High School.pdf)
  4. AUTHORIZATION FORMS – Download and complete the authorization forms during the application process.

JUDGES & JUDGING CRITERIA The judges are biotechnology experts (e.g., teachers, scientists, researchers, etc.).  Click here for Judging Criteria. The Florida finalists will also be judged on an oral presentation. The oral presentation may be conducted over the phone, via Skype or in-person.

WINNERS – BioFlorida will select 1 winner to send to the national competition. The winners will be notified by April 27, 2012 and will receive an all-expense-paid trip to the national competition. 

The Florida finalist will present their research poster at the U.S. National BioGENEius Challenge held in Boston, Massachusetts on June 18-19, 2012.  The top 10 national finalists will advance to the international challenge, where their projects will be displayed to 20,000 convention participants! 

The international competition will take place on June 18-19, 2012. International BioGENEius cash awards: 

  • 1st place - $7,500
  • 2nd Place - $5,000
  • 3rd Place - $2,500
  • 4th Place - $1,000
  • Other 6 finalists receive $500 each for Honorable Mention Award.
