WHAT IS THE BIOGENEIUS CHALLENGE?

The Southern California (SoCal) BioGENEius Challenge Program for 2012 will be conducted by the Southern California Biomedical Council, the trade organization representing the interests of the over 900 bioscience companies in the 5-county Los Angeles region.

STUDENT ELIGIBILITY

Student science fair projects from each of the regional county science fairs will be evaluated by the Council and lead candidates for SoCal BioGENEius Challenge Finalists, who will be selected from the 5 science fairs listed below. 

  • Riverside
  • Ventura
  • Santa Barbara
  • Orange
  • Los Angeles Counties

(Science fairs take place February 7-May 1)

Follow These Steps for Your Chance to be a SoCal BioGENEius Challenge Finalist

  • Prior to applying for consideration for the SoCal BioGENEius Challenge, students should have entered and competed at a regional fair (listed above).
  • The process will focus in the selection of the science fair projects from the 5-county Los Angeles region presenting at the State of California Science Fair, May 1, 2012, being held this year in Los Angeles. 
  • The Council will identify the top 30 Finalist candidates from these 6 events.
  • On May 10th the Council will select the top two SoCal BioGENEius Challenge Finalists.

 The two SoCal BioGENEius Challenge Finalists for competition at the International BioGENEius Challenge at the Biotechnology Industry Organization Annual Meeting in Boston the week of June 17.  There will be four Finalists from California in the International Competition, with two from Southern California.  The remaining 28 finalist candidates selected by the Council will receive special recognitions from the Council and its Board of Directors.
