2006 Teacher-Leader    Application

The Biotechnology Institute's National Biotechnology Teacher-Leader Program continues to build a cadre of 1,000 teachers who are a network of dedicated advisors or "Teacher-Leaders" committed to teaching biotechnology to students and serving as a resource for other teachers.

As part of Serono, Inc.’s commitment to education and its local community, Serono will sponsor 10 teachers from the South Shore to attend the 2006 National Biotechnology Teacher-Leader Program from April 6th-9th in Chicago, IL.

Serono, Inc., will: 

  • Pay the registration fee for the Teacher-Leader program ($130 value)
  • Offer travel reimbursement to Chicago (up to $300)

 

The Biotechnology Institute’s National Biotechnology Teacher-Leader Program is a 3½ day professional development session providing science teachers:

  • Hands-on sessions linked to education and skills standards, teaching strategies, and tours of leading biotechnology sites in the area
  • An international one-day share-a-thon of best practices in teaching biotechnology
  • Free Resources – Shoestring Biotechnology lab manual, Your World magazine, lab coat, goggles and much, much more!
  • A $100 stipend upon completing a post-conference outreach session
  • Awards reception and banquet honoring the 2006 Teacher-Leaders, Minority Fellows, and BioGENEius students
  • Meals and lodging for Thursday, Friday, and Saturday (double occupancy)
  • Complementary registration to the 2006 Biotechnology Industry Organization (BIO) Convention held April 9th-12th in Chicago.
  • An opportunity to apply for the 2007 Genzyme-Invitrogen Biotech Educator Award
